Diagnostic Services

The Division of Audiology offers a full range of diagnostic services including the following:

BaHa  EVALUATIONS

  • Comprehensive evaluations to determine candidacy for the BAHA implant
  • Device demonstration & implant simulation
  • Possible candidates include: Single-Sided deafness, Irrevolvable Conductive Hearing loss, Unilateral Sudden Hearing loss, Acoustic neuroma, Atresia, surgical ear canal closures, etc.

HEARING EVALUATIONS

  • Comprehensive assessment of outer, middle and inner ear function
  • Determination of type and degree of hearing loss

 OTOTOXICITY MONITORING

  • Audiologic monitoring of auditory status due to possible changes caused by ototxic medications
  • Record auditory changes from patient baseline
  • Testing includes high frequency audiometry and otoacoustic emissions

SPECIAL TESTING

  • Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE): Assessment of outer hair cell function
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR): Assessment of auditory system pathway, used to rule out retrococlear involvement
  • Electroneurography (ENoG) : Assessment of facial nerve function secondary to acute trauma, illness, etc.
  • Electrocochleography (ECoG): Assessment of presence of endolymphic hydrops in the inner ear, commonly seen in patients with Meniere's Disease
  • UREA Dehydration: Dehydration evaluation for patients with suspected hydrops

TINNITUS EVALUATIONS

VESTIBULAR TESTING

  • Assessment of the balance organs and nerve function for patients experiencing dizziness or imbalance
  • Rehabilitation maneuvers for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Available tests include: Rotary chair, Posturography, Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP), Fistual, Videonystagmography (VNG)
